Orange Lutheran cornerback Xavier Steele, perhaps the biggest sleeper in the county’s class of 2017, committed to Massachusetts while on a trip to the university over the weekend, the senior said Monday.
“The energy that I felt with the coaches and players and staff was absolutely amazing,” Steele 6-0, 180) said in a direct message via Twitter.
“It’s like my position coach (Steve) Costello always tells me, ‘UMass is a sleeping giant ready to be woken up.’ I’m excited to be part of the awakening.”
