Nordhoff's Henney a candidate for Trabuco Hills job
Tony Henney, who coached Nordhoff of Ojai to CIF championships the past two seasons, confirmed that he was interviewed by phone for the Trabuco Hills football coaching vacancy. Henney this week was named the California Coaches Assocation Southern Section football coach of the year.
Henney coached Nordhoff to the CIF-Southern Section Northwest Division championships in 2012 and '13. Nordhoff lost to Corona del Mar in the CIF State Regionals last month.
This does not mean that Henney is a finalist or leading candidate for the position. Coaches who are satisified with the coaching jobs they have often make inquiries about coaching openings elsewhere.
Trabuco Hills principal Craig Collins reported via email that Trabuco interviewed candidates from within the Saddleback Valley Unified School District on Tuesday, then began interviewing out-of-district people today. Collins hopes to send a name to the district board of education for approval at its Jan. 14 meeting, but is willing to wait if the process is not completed by then.
Scott Orloff was fired as Trabuco coach last month. The Mustangs were 21-19 during his three-year tenure.
Trabuco Hills, 6-4 overall and 2-2 in the South Coast League in '13, moves to the Sea View League next year. With several returning starters, Trabuco might be the 2014 preseason Sea View League favorite.
The South Coast League has been a Pac-5 league the past few seasons; the Sea View has been Southwest Division league. Playoff divisions and their league affiliations could change for teh 2014 football season.
