FRESNO Crean Lutheran and JSerra’s girls are both expected to contend for team titles at the inaugural CIF State Swimming and Diving Championships, which begin in earnest Friday afternoon with swimming prelims at Clovis West.

Both Orange County powers are at full-strength for the two-day meet. JSerra’s roster has been bolstered by the addition of Brittany Kahn in the 500-yard freestyle.

Lions coach Kevin Clements said Thursday night that Kahn – who placed 14th in the Division 1 finals with a 5:02.07 — has been added to the field after mistakenly being left off the entries because of a clerical error.

Kahn didn’t meet the automatic state qualifying standard but with the numerous scratches appeared to move up into the Southern Section’s allotment of qualifying at least the five fastest willing swimmers in each event.

Granite Bay and San Ramon Valley also are considered strong contenders for the girls title.

NO GLOVE FOR EASTIN

Crean Lutheran’s Ella Eastin likely won’t race with a glove to protect her cut hand, Saints coach Craig Brown said. The veteran coach joked that Eastin won’t be taking the “Michael Jackson approach with one glove.”

Brown also said Eastin likely won’t race with her cut glued. The newly-crowned national record holder in the 200 IM cut her hand on Sunday and received stitches.
