SATURDAY’S CIF-SS GIRLS WATER POLO FINALS

At Woollett Aquatics Center, Irvine

DIVISION 3

VILLA PARK (23-9) VS. REDONDO UNION (28-3), 2:30 p.m.

Outlook: The top-seeded Spartans are aiming for their first CIF title after runner-up finishes in Division 2 in 2003 and 2006 to Corona del Mar. Villa Park is paced offensively by the senior trio of Lindsy Peterson (132 goals), Bri Portales (79 goals) and Victoria Vega (80 goals). Peterson excels on the counterattack. Captain Morgan Stiewig, also a senior, anchors the defense with 227 saves. No. 2 seeded Redondo reached the finals for the first time. The Sea Hawks are riding a 14-game winning streak. They’ve built a strong reputation for defense and counterattack. Stanford-bound Sophia Maguy is a player to watch along with fellow seniors Madeline McCaw and Katelin Harris.
