Round 1 scoreboard: Results from fans' vote for top athletes

OCVarsity.com

Maybe it's time to come up with a new term: May Madness.

That certainly seemed to sum up the first round of fan voting to determine the top boys athlete and top girls athlete in Orange County for 2007-08. The first-round voting ended Friday at 6 p.m.

It would be hard to call any of the outcomes upsets, especially since there were no easy matchups, but the results might raise some eyebrows and illict a few "Wows!"

Curious to know who is moving on to the second round? (Note: That round will begin Monday at noon.)

Click on the links below to see who had enough fan support to win their matchup.

And remember, the Register and OCVarsity.com will announce their choices for the boys and girls athletes of the year next month.
