10 reasons why the South Coast League should stay in Pac-5 (Part II)

Given everything from geography to bad luck, the CIF-SS ruling made sense.

6. Mission Viejo
Was this not the best team in the state (maybe the country) just a few years ago?

7. Quality of teams and players
Two South Coast League teams were consistently in the county's top 10 in 2006, and three different teams were ranked in 2007.

Nine South Coast League players were All-County honorees in 2006, five in 2007. It has several more players going to D-I schools than non-Pac-5 Division county teams.

8. Tesoro
Their last-to-first place turnaround from 2006 to 2007 should give hope to every team in the league.

9. Competition
Which division would the South Coast League move to? Teams from the Century and Sea View Leagues have not proved themselves against the Pac-5. Two-time Southwest Division champion El Dorado was not close to beating Esperanza the past two years. If the South Coast League moves to that division, it simply takes over. What is the point of that?

Then consider that the South Coast, Sunset and Trinity Leagues are grouped in the same division in nearly every sport, and you wonder how this is even an issue. They belong together.

10. Time
What do we really know after two years? More time must pass before we can determine what leagues belong in the Pac-5 Division, and all other divisions for that matter. After all, different leagues experience up and down years all the time. How do we know this is not a down period for the South Coast League and that it soon will be up again? So far, the Pac-5 Division, as it is currently constructed, has made for some of the most competitive football ever seen in Southern California. This is a good thing.
