Fryer’s teams 21-25

Monday, October 6th, 2008 by STEVE FRYER, ocvarsity.com

Here are Steve Fryer’s teams 21-25:

21. Valencia (3-1) The Tigers moved up to a Pac-5 Division opponent last week and won, with a 28-17 victory over Capistrano Valley. The defense recorded four sacks and a couple of turnovers, and Isaac Dominguez led the offense with 224 yards rushing – 178 in the second half – and an 80-yard touchdown reception.

Fryer’s teams 16-20

Monday, October 6th, 2008 by STEVE FRYER, ocvarsity.com

Here are Steve Fryer’s teams 16-20:

16. Fullerton (4-1) The Indians rolled to a 42-8 victory over Brea Olinda as county-leading rusher Micheal Allain ran for 185 yards and two touchdowns. Fullerton-La Habra on Nov. 7 is looking like a great game.

Fryer’s teams 11-15

Monday, October 6th, 2008 by STEVE FRYER, ocvarsity.com

Here are Steve Fryer’s teams 11-15:

11. La Habra (3-1) Why is La Habra not in the O.C. Top 10? Because not enough top 10 voters included La Habra on their top-10 ballots. The Highlanders were in my top 10, having looked very good in the 28-21 loss to Los Alamitos.

More halftime scores from across OC …

Friday, October 3rd, 2008 by STEVE FRYER, ocvarsity.com

San Clemente 21, El Toro 3

In the first quarter: Mission Viejo 14, Murrieta Valley 6. MV scored on a Bridgford-to-Mascarenas pass of 20 yards on a fourth and 2 for the first Diablos TD.

Tustin 7, Western 3 at halftime. Our Artie Casas is raving about Western junior RB/LB Ruben Ortega. Fryer, too, has been very impressed by him. Ortega was Orange League player of the year in 2007, as a sophomore.

Fullerton 21, Brea Olinda 0. County No. 2 rusher Michael Allain has 130 yards rushing, with two TDs, on 15 carries (Magnolia’s Robert Cruz came into the week leading the county in rushing; he had a good game Thursday against Corona del Mar).

Irvine 17, Northwood 7. Head coaches Terry Henigan of Irvine and Rick Curtis of Northwood were co-head coaches at Northwood for a couple of years at Irvine, long before Northwood was built.

Live from La Habra — it’s FryDay Night

Friday, October 3rd, 2008 by STEVE FRYER, ocvarsity.com

They are playing Emerson Lake & Palmer’s “Karn Evil #9″ here — with the famous opening line, “Welcome back my friends, to the show that never ends … ”

And that’s what we have here. Week 4 of the high school football season.

The show that never ends, and we have two great ones in the spotlight tonight: Mater Dei-Edison at Orange Coast College, and the one that I am at, Los Alamitos at La Habra. Damian Calhoun is at OCC. He and I are joined at the electronic hip, so you will get plenty of info on Mater Dei-Edison here, as well as Los Al-La Habra and several other games like Tustin-Western, Dana Hills-Newport Harbor, and Murrieta Valley-Mission Viejo, and others, as usual.

It’s kind of a cool autumn night. Perfect for football.

Injury updates from Los Alamitos-La Habra: La Habra is healthy; Los Al is missing two starting LBs — Mike Collins (shoulder) and Joe Lent (back).

Injury report from Mater Dei-Edison: Mater Dei FB/LB David Owens is out, perhaps for the season (unsure of the precise injury and we don’t guess on something like that); Edison is missing DL Erick Loera (quad).

Kickoff in about five minutes here at La Habra, where the home side of the grandstand is full, as usual.
