Recruiting files: Tim Hodgdon
A Q&A with the Tesoro offensive lineman, who has made a commitment to Washington State.
Player: Tim Hodgdon
School: Tesoro
Position: Offensive lineman
Committed to: Washington State
Recruiting trips he took: Hodgdon is taking his first official visit to Washington State this weekend. "I'm really excited. I've been there before and it's a college town." Ne made unofficial visits to Washington State, Cal and Oregon.
How was the trip to Oregon?
"I really didn't get to meet any of the coaches at Oregon."
How was Cal?
"At Cal I met the head coach and the O-line coach. But I didn't feel I would get an offer soon. I wanted to go somewhere I can make an impact. I didn't know their interest."
Describe what it is like to be recruited.
"Everyone knows it's really hard. You don't know if a school really likes you. It's also really hard on the parents. If I had advice for anyone, wait it out. If it happens it happens. It's a blessing to get a scholarship.
"Recruiting goes up and down. You don't know till you get to the end, unless you're a five-star guy. But once you get the recognition, it becomes really fun."
Schools that offered him a scholarship:
Washington State
Schools that have shown interest in him:
San Diego State, UCLA, Oregon, Portland State.
How do you explain the interest in you growing in recent weeks?
"It has a lot to do with my senior season. We beat Mission Viejo, San Clemente. We made a name for ourselves as a school. I think that's really important for recruiting.
What is the strength of your commitment?
"Right now, it is a soft verbal until my official visit. Then, I'll decide if it's a solid verbal."
What could change your mind?
"If I see a school that is really interested in me. At Washington State, I'm not sure if they want to redshirt me. I don't want to do that. If UCLA came around, I'd review my options."
Did Washington State's head coaching change affect anything?
"I was recruited by (former coach Lou Doba's) offensive line coach. He's not there anymore. They contacted me right away. I knew before the press conference that he was released. They just told me they were having a head coaching change and that my scholarship was still strong and they were excited to have me at Washington State.
"I've been through coaching changes. I didn't think much of it. I saw it as a possibility for good, (rather) than as a possibility for bad. I'm not discouraged by it, but the thing is, I haven't talked to the head coach yet, so I'm really excited to see what he thinks."
