Second-round football sites set
It worked before. Maybe it will work again.
Three weeks ago, Orange Lutheran chose to play a home game at the opponent's home stadium. Lutheran still beat Mater Dei, 31-12, at Santa Ana Stadium, which is Mater Dei's usual home field.
Lutheran is the home team Friday for a CIF-Southern Section Pac-5 Division second-round game against Edison. The Lancers' selection of home field: Orange Coast College, where Edison has played four home games this season and many other home games in past seasons.
The Lancers picked Orange Coast for the same reason they used Santa Ana Stadium – it was the most feasible place available that is large enough to handle the anticipated large number of spectators.
The other three Pac-5 second-round playoff games will be in Orange County on Friday: Long Beach Poly at Newport Harbor; Esperanza-Servite at Cal State Fullerton; and Crespi of Encino-Mater Dei at Santa Ana Stadium.
In the Northeast Division, Saddleback Valley Christian will use Aliso Niguel as its home field for the third time in four weeks Friday when the Warriors play Mammoth.
All three county teams still playing in the Southeast Division – Fullerton, La Habra and Westminster -- have home games at their on-campus stadiums Friday.
The Anaheim-Cypress second-round game in the Southern Division will be played Saturday at Western High. University-Kennedy is at Western High on Friday.
In the Southwest Division, Foothill-South Hills of West Covina is at Covina District Stadium on Friday at 7 p.m.
Sites, dates and starting times might change during the upcoming week. Be sure to check ocvarsity.com for updates.
