Here’s another review of The Register’s annual Hot 150 list of football players to watch in a blog I’m calling “Hot 150 studs and snubs.”

The “studs” are ranked players who are having great seasons and the “snubs” are players exceeding my expectations or who I ranked low on my list or perhaps not at all.

I’m keeping this positive, so those are my only two categories.

SNUBS

Malcolm Dixon, Sunny Hills, Jr. — Dixon (5-11, 170) didn’t make the Hot 150 but is generating a buzz with his play for the 3-0 Lancers. As the quarterback, he has rushed for 178 yards and 7 TDs and also thrown for a score. Sunny Hills is averaging about 50 carries a game as a team. On defense, the cornerback has two interceptions, both from his spectacular, five-TD performance against Pioneer in the season opener.

The Lancers could move to 4-0 this week with a victory against Saddleback, setting up an intriguing game against Los Amigos to close out their nonleague schedule. Sunny Hills’ schedule hasn’t been strong but the Lancers seem to be progressing, which is a must in the tough Freeway League.

Joe Ha, Sunny Hills, Sr. –– The unranked Ha has emerged as a productive running back with 363 yards in three games.

STUDS

No. 150 Nick Brown, Rancho Alamitos, Sr. — Brown has proved worthy of his inclusion in the Hot 150. He’s already passed for 1,031 yards and 15 TDs with just one interception in three games. He was limited by Pioneer last week to 208 yards but still had four TDs. This week, he and the Vaqueros face 0-3 Godinez.

No. 11 Maurice Davison, Servite, Sr. — Davison nearly cracked the Top 10 in the Hot 150 and he’s showing why. The speedy corner challenged for defensive player of the week honors after returning an interception 98 yards for a TD against La Mirada in Week 2. He covered ex-teammate and standout wide receiver Tony Brown most of the game and fared well. He finished with two solo tackles, one assist and broke up a pass.

No. 122 Nico Ament, Servite, Sr. — Friars coach A.J. Gass was high on Ament during the summer. The safety racked up 12 total tackles, including four for loss, and a sack against La Mirada.
