Vote for the best teams of the year
First-round voting opens with eight boys teams and eight girls teams.
You spoke loudly with your votes for the fans' selections as Orange County's top athletes, and now it's your opportunity to let us know your favorites as the best teams of the school year.
After our wild-card round, we narrowed the field to eight boys teams and eight girls teams. All of them are worthy of being honored, but the fans will get a chance to recognize their favorites.
First-round voting continues until Friday at 4 p.m.
Voting for the top athletes seemed to inspire some fans to vote, well, about once a minute for three consecutive days. OK, that might be an exaggeration, but you get the point.
We considered implementing some restrictions on the voting, but tech-savvy fans could've figured out ways around them with little trouble. Then an advantage would have gone to the fans who first figured out a way to beat the system.
Instead, we kept the playing field level. Some fans will vote at will, others will cast one ballot. But every school in the voting has the same opportunity to advance.
On to the first-round voting:
BOYS
Cypress football vs. Orange Lutheran track and field
Dana Hills cross country vs. Santa Margarita basketball
Mater Dei basketball vs. Orange Lutheran baseball
La Habra football vs. Santa Margarita soccer
GIRLS
Cypress volleyball vs. Woodbridge track and field
Dana Hills tennis vs. Newport Harbor water polo
Kennedy softball vs. Mission Viejo swimming
Magnolia basketball vs. Sonora water polo
