JSerra knocks off Santa Margarita in Trinity League baseball
Dylan Christensen had two hits, three RBIs and scored a run to lead JSerra past Santa Margarita, 9-3, in a Trinity League baseball game Saturday at Santa Margarita High.
Christensen accounted for a run in each of his four plate appearances.
The junior center fielder had an RBI single in the second, a sacrifice fly RBI in the fourth, an RBI single in the sixth and squeezed in a run in the seventh.
His defensive contributions sparked the Lions (17-8, 8-5) as well. Trailing 2-0 in the fourth, the Eagles loaded the bases with one out.
Christensen chased down Chris Lupins' fly to left-center, made the catch and threw to second in time to double off Kevin Brand to end the Santa Margarita threat.
The Eagles (8-17, 3-10) rallied and scored three runs in the sixth to cut the deficit to 5-3.
However, JSerra countered by scoring four times in the seventh, highlighted by Matt Paradise's two-run homer to left, his second of the season.
“Dylan made an exceptional catch and throw to complete the double play in the fourth inning,” Lions coach Brett Kay said. “We then came back and scored two runs in the fifth, which changed the momentum of the game.”
Grahamm Wiest pitched 5 2/3 innings and got the victory to improve to 5-2.
Conor Doyle had two hits and scored a run for Santa Margarita. Thomas Emanuele (4-4) pitched four innings and suffered the loss.
JSerra won all three games against the Eagles this season. The Lions will play a two-game series with Mater Dei this week, with both teams vying for second place in the Trinity League.
