Roger Holmes confirmed Thursday he has resigned as boys basketball coach at Fountain Valley.
Holmes, 54, coached the Barons for four years. He previously coached for 16 years at Marina, and before that was the coach at Santa Margarita.
In an email Holmes stated, “I just felt this was the time to step away.”
Fountain Valley won the Sunset League championship in the 2012-13 season. The Barons, with an abundance of sophomores in the rotation, finished 9-18 overall and 2-8 in the Sunset League this past season.
He coached Marina to a CIF-Southern Section championship game in the 2003-04 season. Marina was known for its high scoring and three-point shooting during Holmes’ tenure.
Holmes was an All-County basketball player at Fountain Valley in the late 1970s.
