Veteran Costa Mesa girls water polo and girls swim coach Tim Postiff has resigned for personal reasons, he confirmed Friday.

Postiff said the decision to resign was difficult but was the best move for his two sons. Both are involved in sports and he will be coaching/volunteering for their teams, he said in a text message.

Postiff coached girls water polo at Costa Mesa for 12 seasons and girls swim for about seven seasons. The Mustangs’ girls water polo team made the playoffs each season under Postiff except one.

Costa Mesa reached the Division 1 playoffs this past season, losing to Woodbridge, 16-4, in the wild-card round. The Mustangs’ girls swim team finished sixth at the Orange Coast League finals last month.

Postiff said he will remain an English teacher at the school.

Costa Mesa’s aquatics program features a 50-meter pool.
