Former El Toro standout water polo player Brent Danna, who guided the Crescenta Valley girls to a CIF title two seasons ago, has been hired to take over the Chargers’ boys and girls water polo programs this summer, he confirmed Friday.

Danna teaches at Crescenta Valley and hopes to secure a teaching position in the Saddleback Valley Unified School District in the coming weeks.

He guided Crescenta Valley’s girls to a CIF Division 5 crown two seasons ago and compiled a 55-9 mark with the girls the past two seasons.

Prior to coaching the girls at Crescenta Valley, Danna served as a varsity assistant with the Crescenta Valley boys.

He called his hiring at El Toro a career milestone, saying the reason he went into coaching and teaching was to someday take over the Chargers’ program. “We have some work to do but that’s what it’s all about,” he said.

Danna replaces another former El Toro standout, Brett McCleave.
