girls_soccer_blog12In an effort to help clear up any confusion about reporting tournament matches as ties, I recently contacted the CIF-SS girls' soccer commissioner's office to get an explanation on the rule.

Here is the official word from the commissioner's office regarding their bylaws on ties from tournament matches.

"When a game ends tied in a tournament, a tie is counted on the record. The penalty kick portion is needed to determine who will move into the appropriate positions in the next round of play. Shootouts are for advancement only. However, when it comes to a game where there is a placing that is recognized by the tournament (i.e.: a first place or a third place game where a definite winner is determined not for the purpose of advancement) it will count for a win or a loss."

In accordance with this CIF rule, records that do not currently reflect this on OC will be changed. Statisticians and coaches that enter their stats are also encouraged to make corrections if the currently listed record for a team is not accurrate.
