Woodbridge junior Daniela Georges, one of fastest rising swimmers in Orange County, will not race this week at the Pacific Coast League finals because she is resting a sore shoulder to be as healthy as possible for next week’s CIF-Southern Section championships, Warriors girls coach Pat Bangs said Wednesday.
“It’s about her,” Bangs said of the decision, which takes in consideration Georges’ long-term health. “She’s a great kid and she’s gangbusters.”
Georges has enjoyed a stellar short-course season, highlighted by a breakout club meet with the Aquazot earlier this spring. She approached Janet Evans’ legendary county record in the 500 free with a lifetime-best 4:39.82.
In 200 free, Georges clocked a 1:45.83, less than half-a-second off Katie McLaughlin’s county record from last season.
Georges didn’t race Tuesday during the Pacific Coast League prelims at Woollett. She does have automatic CIF Division 1 qualifying times and will take aim at the 200 and 500-yard freestyles next week, Bangs said.
