Mission Viejo football coach Bob Johnson was overcome with emotion while talking Tuesday morning about the passing of former Diablos All-American tight end Konrad Reuland, who died Monday of a brain aneurysm at 29.

“He’s a beautiful kid,” Johnson said in a phone interview. “He’s just the most beautiful kid and (with his) family, his brothers, everybody included, it’s just a big, big family and we all feel part of it.”

The ultra-competitive coach let his emotions show, holding back sobs as he spoke.

“It’s ripped us all,” Johnson said. “It’s been three weeks of hell. Lots of crying. Lots of crying. Lots of chances and then no chances. … Life is not fair.”
