Final score: Edison 33, Fountain Valley 7

The game: Edison got four interceptions, one returned 43 yards for a touchdown by Miguel Moreida. Chargers sophomore quarterback Griffin O’Connor threw for 269 yards and two touchdowns. Turner Maza ran for two touchdowns and had 78 receiving yards. Garrett White caught a touchdown pass, one of three catches for 62 yards, but suffered a knee injury in the second quarter – initial diagnosis was a hyperextension. Shaun Colamonico blocked a punt and had a 70-yard touchdown reception. For Fountain Valley, Chad Olberding started at quarterback although, Barons coach Ray Fenton said, he did not take a snap in practice all week.

Key to the game: Edison’s defense. Fountain Valley’s George Sykes did run for 113 yards, but The Barons had threw more interceptions, four, than completions, three.

Player of the game: Shaun Colamonico. He blocked a punt that set up Edison’s second touchdown and made a great running, over-the-shoulder catch for the 70-yard touchdown.

Key stat: Edison got four turnovers and lost three. While that might not seem great, earlier in the season Edison consistently lost more turnovers than it got.

They said it: “I knew our guys were ready. You could tell how focused they were before the game.” – Edison coach Dave White

What it means: Edison won the Bell Game for the 11th year in a row, and clinched a share of the Sunset League championship. Edison will go to the CIF-Southern Section West Valley Division playoffs as the league’s No. 1 representative. That designation guarantees Edison a first-round home playoff game against another league’s No. 3 team or an at-large team. Fountain Valley will go to the playoffs as the league’s No. 2 team. The Barons thus could have a first-round home game or a first-round away game, likely against another league’s No. 2 team. Fountain Valley could play another league’s No. 3 team in what would be a Barons home game.
