Brea Olinda lost to Bishop O’Dowd of Oakland, 55-40, Friday here at UC Berkeley in the CIF State Division III girls basketball championship game.

Reili Richardson scored 19 points, almost half of the Ladycats’ total.

Brea finished 26-5. O’Dowd finished 25-9. It is O’Dowd’s third state title over the past four years.

O’Dowd has some super-quick guards. Asha Thomas, a senior who will play her college ball here at Cal, and Aisia Robertson, who is going to Kansas. Robertson led the Dragons with 16 points. Thomas was credited with five assists — I think she had more — to go with her 16 points.

Brea has seven freshmen on the roster, a couple of whom played significant minutes today.

It is very difficult to advance to a state championship game. But we just might see Brea reach the state finals again in 2016.
