Watch out for Santa Ana in Division 13.
The Saints, ranked No. 1 in the division, rolled to a 36-12 victory against No. 3 Godinez on Thursday despite playing without standout brothers and Hot 150 selections Jorge and Jonathan Briseno.
The seniors didn’t play because of injuries, Santa Ana coach Charlie TeGantvoort said in a text message Friday.
The coach said Jorge, a running back, is in the last “couple of weeks” of his rehabiliation from ACL surgery, while Jonathan, a quarterback/cornerback, was banged up.
“I actually held four starters out,” TeGantvoort said. “I’m trying to be a better head coach this year and make sure we are healthy at the end of the year when it counts.”
Godinez also was without its top player, dual-threat quarterback Bryan Ibarra, who could debut in two weeks against Segerstrom.
Santa Ana takes on Anaheim next week and then Marina.
