WEDNESDAY’S BOYS WATER POLO SEMIFINALS

DIVISION 2

MIRA COSTA (24-6) vs. DANA HILLS (24-6)

Outlook: The second-seeded Dolphins are seeking to reach their first CIF section final. They lost last season in the semifinals to Los Osos, 9-7, but edged the Grizzlies on Saturday in the quarterfinals, 10-9, to reach consecutive semifinals for the first time. The South Coast League champions beat third-seeded Mira Costa, 12-5, in the teams’ lone meeting on Oct. 10. Goalie Riley Zachary (365 saves) anchored the Dolphins with 25 saves while high-scoring Bennett Williams (106 goals, 43 assists) added four goals. Rising junior Jack McLaughlin (73 goals) is another player to watch for Dana Hills. Mira Costa outlasted host San Marcos, 8-7, in the quarterfinals. The Mustangs also reached the semifinals last season, falling to eventual champion Foothill. Attacker Jake Miller-Tolt is a returning All-CIF player for Mira Costa.
