The season continues for the Edison football team.
The Chargers (13-1), the CIF-SS Southwest Division champions, will host Serra of Gardena (12-2) in the CIF Division II State Regional Championship Game, Saturday at Orange Coast College at 7:30 p.m.
Serra (12-2) defeated Chaminade, 30-28, in the CIF-SS Western Division final.
The winner will advance to the CIF State bowl game, Saturday, Dec. 15 at 4 p.m. at the Home Depot Center against the winner from the North regional (Clayton Valley or Oakdale).
"Our kids are excited," Edison coach Dave White said. "This team has found a way to win all year. We're as healthy as can be going into the 15th game (of the season) and that will help a little bit and we're going to give it a good shot."
Serra's only two losses of the season were to Narbonne and Chaminade. White is aware of the challenge facing the Chargers.
"We haven't faced a team with their speed all year," he said. "We're going to have to control the clock and keep their offense off of the field. Our punt and kick coverage is going to have to come up with plays too.
"We're not used to going up against that speed, you can't simulate it, but we're excited to play.
Serra won its first four games to start the season, including a 20-12 victory over eventual Pac-5 champion Long Beach Poly (Aug. 31).
After the consecutive losses to Narbonne and Chaminade, the Cavaliers, who are coached by Scott Altenberg, have won eight consecutive games.
White admitted that he was a little concerned about whether or not Edison would be picked.
"We knew there were three teams and only two could be picked. We felt we deserved it with our only loss being to a Pac-5 finalist (Mater Dei) by six points," he said.
In the other SoCal Regional finals: Narbonne vs. Centennial (Open Division), Saturday at Cerritos College. In Division I, Clovis North vs. Long Beach Poly, Friday at 7:30 p.m.
In Division III, Madiso visits Monrovia, Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Santa Fe Christian meets Rio Hondo Prep (Division IV), Friday at 7:30 p.m.
