There are some comings and goings within the Mater Dei athletic department.
In boys basketball:
Spencer Freedman, impressive as a freshman point guard at Santa Monica last season, is transferring to Mater Dei, Coach Gary McKnight confirmed Friday.
McKnight said the 6-foot Freedman was expected to make his Mater Dei debut Friday night in the Crespi Tournament.
In baseball:
Nick Pratto, a sophomore pitcher who is committed to USC, is transferring from Mater Dei to Huntington Beach.
Huntington Beach coach Benji Medure said Pratto is working with the Huntington Beach’s athletic department to complete paperwork for the transfer.
Pratto was All-Trinity League first team as a freshman in 2014. A back injury sidelined him for most the 2015 season.
