The boys water polo rivalry between Mater Dei and reigning Division 1 champion Harvard-Westlake got more intriguing Tuesday.
U.S. national team left-hander Thomas Dunstan of Connecticut began attending Mater Dei, Monarchs boys coach Chris Segesman said.
“Today was his first day,” Segesman said of Dunstan, a senior-to-be who jumped into the pool for an evening practice following Orange Lutheran’s 9-7 victory against the host Mater Dei girls.
Segesman also said that Huntington Beach defender Elias Lule — a first-team All-Sunset League pick last season — has enrolled at Mater Dei. Earlier on Tuesday, the coach confirmed that Huntington Beach sophomore-to-be center Wyatt Benson enrolled at Mater Dei.
Harvard-Westlake has defeated Mater Dei in the past two Division 1 finals and returns rising senior center Ben Hallock in the fall.
Dunstan’s arrival was first rumored in the summer.
