In Orange County's most anticipated announcement of National Signing Day, San Clemente All-County left tackle Kyle Murphy (6-7, 280) said moments ago that he is headed to Stanford. Murphy entered the day as one of the top uncommitted players in the country.Murphy, the No. 1 recruit in Orange County, was thought to have narrowed his decision to Stanford and USC. He made the decision in front of San Clemente's library --- complete with an arch of red, white and black balloons --- as part of a signing day ceremony rather than make a big splash on television like many top recruits in the Class of 2012.
"The school I'm going to for the next four or five years ... is Stanford," Murphy announced before the large crowd burst into cheers.
The senior took official recruiting trips to Oregon, Florida, Stanford and USC. He is considered by some to the No. 1 tackle prospect in the nation. He was a Fab 15 selection and played in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.
"It's definitely the hardest decision I've ever (made) in my life," Murphy said.
