The road to the Trinity League football title goes through St. John Bosco, and that route was supposed to be less treacherous this fall for Orange County contenders because of the departure of quarterback Josh Rosen to UCLA.

Well, perhaps not so much.

The Braves’ new starting quarterback, senior Quentin Davis (6-2, 208), impressed Friday in the Braves’ season-opening 76-8 victory at La Mirada, ranked second in the preseason Southeast Division poll.

Davis completed 18 of 22 passes for 363 yards and six TDs and no interceptions. He also rushed six times for 60 yards.

Davis wasn’t the only breakout performer for St. John Bosco. Sophomore Re-Al Mitchell, also listed as a quarterback, rushed for 131 yards on five carries, including a 71-yard TD run.

Of course, Servite featured its own impressive quarterback debut. Junior Tyler Lytle (6-4, 200) completed 18 of 28 passes for 422 yards last week against Fountain Valley.
