San Clemente All-Orange County quarterback Sam Darnold signed his letter of intent with USC on Wednesday morning and was injured early in the school’s basketball game that evening.

Darnold fell on his tailbone three minutes into the home game against Aliso Niguel and did not play the rest of the game.

San Clemente coach Marc Popovich said via text message that more will be known about Darnold’s injury Friday.

Darnold was county offensive player of the year for the 2014 football season. He also is an outstanding basketball player and is a top candidate for South Coast League player of the year in the sport.

ESPN ranked Darnold as the No. 8 quarterback recruit in the nation.
