San Clemente quarterback Sam Darnold is a nominee for U.S. Army football national player of the year.
Darnold, who committed to USC, is among 16 nominees. Other Southern California players among the 16 are defensive back Marshall Iman of Long Beach Poly and defensive lineman Rasheem Green of Serra/Gardena.
San Clemente plays Foothill in a Southwest Division second-round playoff game Friday at Tustin High.
