Four members of Mater Dei’s CIF Division 1 runner-up boys water polo team have committed to four-year schools, Monarchs coach Chris Segesman reports.
All-CIF attackers Nick Lavayen and Matt Payne have committed to USC and Princeton, respectively, while goalie Jonathan Van De Velde committed to recently-crowned NCAA champion UCLA.
Senior Spencer Carroll has committed to Brown.
Lavayan was selected MVP of the 18-and-under Junior Olympics during the summer while Payne is one of the fastest attackers in the county. Van De Velde was a strong one-year starter after waiting his turn behind McQuin Baron, now starting at USC.
The foursome gives Mater Dei an impressive senior class. All-CIF attacker Nick Silvers earlier committed to USC. Silvers also was selected Trinity League MVP.
