An ultra-fast current pushes collegiate swimming but two O.C. products are keeping up.
And in one case, setting a new pace.
Crean Lutheran grad Ella Eastin (SoCal) was recently selected swimmer of the year and newcomer of the year in the Pac-12 Conference for women’s swim.
Eastin highlighted her season by setting the American record in the 200-yard individual medley. The freshman also become the youngest woman to break four minutes in the 400-yard IM.
In SEC men’s swim, inspiration Edison grad Thomas Smith of LSU (Aquazot), who has overcome a benign tumor in his left knee, was selected to the all-freshman team. Smith finished seventh in the 200 back at the SEC final.
