Mission Viejo quarterback Matt McDonald has been offered a scholarship by Boston College, the senior said Monday night.

“Feels incredible,” he said. “Hard work pays off.”

Boston College is the first school that plays at the FBS level to offer McDonald. He hosted the ACC school for an in-home visit Monday night.

“They’ve been looking at me for several months,” McDonald said.

He landed the scholarship after a strong senior season with the Diablos. He passed for 2,704 yards and 39 TDs and also rushed for 235 yards and four TDs.

McDonald transferred to Mission Viejo after his junior season at Mater Dei, where he was displaced by JT Daniels, a freshman at the time.

“I never gave up,” McDonald said. “I always knew I could play that well. I just needed my shot.”

He plans to make an official recruiting trip to Boston College this weekend, the last one before National Signing Day on Feb. 1.

“It’s good timing,” he said. “I just want to go see (the campus) in person. … I’ve never even been to Boston.”

McDonald also credited recruiting service Playing For Envelopes for helping him gain more exposure with colleges.
