Three Orange County coaches were named Southern Section Winter Sports Coaches of the Year by the California Coaches Association.
Sunny Hills girls soccer coach Jeff Gordon, Canyon boys basketball coach Nate Harrison and Santa Margarita girls water polo coach Brian Weathersby won the awards.
The Sunny Hills girls soccer team finished 27-1-3. He has coached the Lancers to 18 league championships in his 24 years running the program.
Canyon’s boys basketball team won the CIF-Southern Section Division 2AA championship and was Century League champion. The Comanches finished 30-5 and advanced to the CIF Southern California Regionals Division 2 semifinals, in which they lost to Compton in overtime.
Weathersby was named Southern Section rookie coach of the year. Santa Margarita won the Trinity League championship and the CIF-SS Division 2 championship.
