Segerstrom boys and girls water polo coach Tim Fredericksen, who guided the Jaguars to three CIF-SS titles after becoming the school’s first coach, has resigned for family reasons, he confirmed.

He and his wife, Katie Hedley, the former El Toro standout, have a 14 month-old daughter, Sage.

“It’s been awesome,” Fredericksen said of his run at Segerstrom. “We’ve had a great group of kids.”

In six seasons with the boys, he guided the Jaguars to five Golden West League title and CIF-SS titles in 2013 (Division 7 vs. Yorba Linda) and 2015 (Division 6 vs. Temescal Canyon). The Jaguars were runner-ups in Division 6 in 2014 against Malibu.

Fredericksen was the Register’s coach of the year in 2013.

Segerstrom’s boys jumped to Division 3 this past season, falling in the first round to La Serna. The Jaguars boys feature junior-to-be center Jose Barajas.

Fredericksen led the Segerstrom girls to the Division 7 title (vs Ocean View) in 2014. The Jaguars were young this past season but reached the Division 4 quarterfinals, falling to eventual runner-up Canyon.

Fredericksen credited assistant Andrew Salway for helping the program rise. Fredericksen, a walk-on, teaches PE at Heninger Elementary in Santa Ana.

Applicants interested in the Segerstrom position can submit their resume to the athletic director at nick.canzone3@gmail.com by March 17.
