Esperanza has named former Western Christian of Upland coach and one-time Marina hire Kevin Oberlander as its football coach, the Aztecs announced Friday.
Oberlander turned around Western Christian from 2010-14, guiding the program to a CIF semifinal appearance in the East Valley playoffs in 2013. Prior to Western Christian, he served as an assistant at Whittier Christian.
Oberlander was hired at Marina in January of 2014 but a credential issue nixed the partnership.
The Aztecs finished 1-9 last season, including two forfeit losses. They were 0-3 in the Crestview. Esperanza also missed the playoffs in 2013-14.
Oberlander replaces Gary Bowers.
