Capistrano Valley Christian has named former Santa Margarita and Northwood coach Rick Curtis as its football coach and athletic director, the San Joaquin League school announced via Twitter on Monday.

Curtis coached Santa Margarita the past two seasons, compiling an 11-10 overall record with a playoff appearance in 2014. He replaced Harry Welch as coach.

Curtis arrived at Santa Margarita from Northwood. He coached the Timberwolves for 13 seasons, producing seven playoff trips and a CIF runner-up finished in 2005.

At CVC, Curtis replaces Eric Preszler, who departed for Arrowhead Christian.

CVC missed the playoffs last season but made the postseason the previous three years in the San Joaquin League. Saddleback Valley Christian has emerged as the San Joaquin powerhouse, winning the CIF East Valley title last season along with a regional Division V-A playoff game en route to a state runner-up finish.

It’s been a busy offseason for coaching changes in Orange County. High-profile vacancies remain at Huntington Beach and Fountain Valley, Trabuco Hills, Esperanza and Sonora.
