Capistrano Valley Christian has named Eric Preszler as its football coach, replacing Dan Dodd who has returned to the college ranks, Preszler said Monday night at the South practice for the O.C. all-star game.

Preszler is serving as an assistant coach for the South all-stars and coach Eric Lo of Huntington Beach.

Preszler, 31, served as an assistant the past three seasons under Dodd but before that coached with the Oilers.

Dodd, a veteran college football coach, was hired in the spring as the tight end coach and recruiting coordinator for Arkansas State. Dodd guided the CVC to the playoffs the past two seasons.

“Tough guy to replace,” Preszler said of Dodd, whom he considers a mentor.

CVC opened last season 8-0 before losing its final two games. The Eagles feature one of the county’s top returning players, receiver/safety Ben Sukut.
