San Clemente and quarterback Sam Darnold placed second over the weekend at the Under Armour Rumble at the Ranch Passing League tournament at El Rancho, Tritons football coach Jaime Ortiz reports.
The Tritons finished 6-1, losing to St. Bonaventure in the championship.
Darnold returned from the Elite 11 and Opening in Oregon in time for the tournament and played well. The senior-to-be was intercepted only once in 128 attempts, Ortiz said.
Other standouts for San Clemente over the weekend: linebacker Riley Whimpey (6-3, 205, transfer from Utah), tight end Cole Harlow (6-6, 195) and running back/slot Brandon Reeves (5-9, 165).
