CIF girls water polo playoffs

Division 4 breakdown

1st round starts: Feb. 16

Top 4 seeds: 1. Canyon, 2. South Pasadena, 3. Peninsula, 4. Claremont

Number of teams: 20 entries (16-team bracket)

League champions: Only three: Canyon, Yucaipa, Laguna Hills.

Where are last year’s finalists? Royal dominated the division last season and moved to Division 1, falling in the first round to Dos Pueblos. Runner-up Riverside Poly landed softer in Division 2.

O.C. best hope: Canyon. The Comanches are the top seed with a balanced lineup. They also cruised past Laguna Hills, 9-3, at the Irvine SoCal tourney.

Fun facts: Canyon, Laguna Hills and Aliso Niguel have never reached the finals. Canyon produced two-time Olympic gold medalist Courtney Mathewson. … Segerstrom won the Division 7 title in 2014.

Final poll (AFTER Bay League mistake with Peninsula entry): 1. Canyon, 2. South Pasadena, 3. Claremont, 4. LB Poly, 5. Laguna Hills, 6. Oxnard, 7. Aliso Niguel, 8. Segerstrom, 9. Brea Olinda, 10. Yucaipa
