Top basketball prospect Bol Bol enrolled at Mater Dei
Bol Bol, a 7-foot junior and the son of former NBA player Manute Bol, enrolled at Mater Dei on Tuesday, the school’s athletic director, Tia Meza, confirmed.
Bol previously attended Bishop Miege in Shawnee, Kan., but reports say he left the school in November.
Bol, listed at 213 pounds, is considered one of the nation’s top high school prospects for his class. Several recruiting websites report that Bol has scholarship offers from Kansas, Creighton and St. John’s.
Bol’s father, Manute Bol, was a 7-foot-7 center who played in the NBA for 10 seasons. Manute Bol died in 2010.
Bol Bol would have to be declared athletically eligible by the CIF-SS before he could play at Mater Dei. The CIF-Southern Section can’t begin that process until the transfer paperwork has been submitted.
The CIF-SS reviews all transfers to make sure they are not athletically motivated and to determine if there was pre-enrollmet contact between the athlete and any school representatives.
Bol can practice with the Monarchs while he waits for the CIF-SS to rule on his eligibility.
The Monarchs begin Trinity League play Friday against St. John Bosco.
Bol helped Bishop Miege win the Kansas 4A Divsion Icq championship last season. Bol scored 14 points and made one 3-pointer in the championship game. He spent the majority of his freshman year on the school’s junior varsity team.
