Servite’s Johnny Beltran placed fourth at 182 pounds at Senior Nationals in the National Wrestling Championships in Virginia Beach, becoming the program’s first ever All-American.
Beltran advanced to the semifinals Saturday, winning his first four matches. He suffered a 4-2 defeat to Luis Peguero of Florida in the semifnals. He made his way to the third-place match, where he lost by fall (5.26) to Mark Tracy of New York.
Team California finished in second place, just two points behind New York (238.5-236.5).
There were 618 wrestlers in the Senior Division, 374 were state champions.
By finishing in the top eight, wrestlers are recognized as a High School All-American.
