Newport Harbor water polo center Christina O’Beck and Edison attacker Natalie May, left, have committed to colleges.

O’Beck has committed to Michigan while May signed with Hartwick in New York.

O’Beck, a third-team All-County selection, picked the Wolverines over Loyola Marymount.

“Michigan has been my dream school since seventh grade when I went to a tournament there and fell in love with the campus,” the senior said in a text message Monday. “I ended up going with my gut feeling and it’s like a weight lifted off my shoulders now.”

O’Beck netted 66 goals to help the Sailors reach a third consecutive CIF Division 1 final. Newport fell to top-seeded Laguna Beach in the finale.

The first-team All-Sunset League pick also is a former swimmer for the Estancia-based Splash and also has coached for the club.

May served as a captain this past season for the Chargers’ water polo team and also swims for Edison. She plays club water polo for CDM Grey. Last season, May raced on Edison’s 400 free relay that placed eighth at the CIF Division 1 finals.
