USC junior goalie McQuin Baron (Mater Dei) was selected Division 1 player of the year by the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches.
Baron, a former Register player of the year, played for the U.S. men’s Olympic team in Rio earlier this year.
A few other O.C. players earned honors. Luca Cupido of NCAA champion Cal (Newport Harbor), a teammate of Baron in Rio, was selected first-team All-American.
Long Beach State’s Nolan McConnell (Laguna Beach) and Pepperdine’s Marko Asic (Dana Hills) earned second-team honors.
UCLA goalie Garrett Danner (El Toro) and his former high school teammate, Joey Colton of Harvard (El Toro), took third-team All-American honors.
Kirk Everist of Cal was selected Division 1 coach of the year.
