Former El Toro High and Mission Viejo Nadadores diver Mark Anderson finished third after the semifinals of the men’s 3-meter springboard event at the U.S. Olympic Diving Trials in Indianapolis.

The University of Texas senior-to-be scored 856.95 points to finish the semifinals behind Olympian Kristian Ipsen of Clayton and Stanford (973.20) and Michael Hixon of Amherst, Ma. and Indiana University  (966.15).

The top-two finishers in Saturday’s final, to be shown Saturday on NBC at 1:30 p.m., will land a spot on the U.S. team for the Rio Olympics this summer.

Ipsen scored four 9.0s on his final dive, a reverse 1 1/2 somersault with 3 1/2 twist to secure the lead.

Anderson posted four 8.0s on a reverse 3 1/2 somersault on his second to final dive.

In the women’s platform, Jessica Parratto of Dover, N.H. and Indiana (714.95) opened a 69-point lead on Samantha Bromberg of Bexley, Ohio and Texas (645.95) and Amy Cozad of Indianapolis (645.80) after the semifinals.

Capistrano Valley senior-to-be Cami Hidalgo (553.30 ) and former Santa Margarita diver Kahley Rowell (537.05) finished 11th and 12th, respectively, in the semifinals to reach the finals. The top-two finishers in the event, to air Saturday at 5 p.m. on NBC, will qualify for the Rio Games.
