Ray Fenton is the new football coach at Los Alamitos, the school announced today.

Fenton has coached at Fountain Valley the past three seasons. The Barons went 19-13 overall during his tenure, 8-7 in the Sunset League and 0-2 in the playoffs.

He previously coached at Webb of Claremont and at Cypress. Fenton led Cypress to a CIF-Southern Section championship in 2007, when he also was named a California state coach of the year.

At Los Alamitos he replaces John Barnes, Orange County’s career leader in coaching wins, who retired after the 2015 season.

Los Alamitos finished 5-6 overall in ’15. The Griffins were third in the Sunset League with a 3-2 league record. They lost to Chino Hills in the first round of the West Valley Division playoffs.

Brian Barnes, son of John Barnes, had applied for the Los Alamitos football head coaching position according to John Barnes.
