JSerra's girls basketball team raced out to an early lead and never looked back against Godinez, cruising to an 85-12 victory in a pool-play game in the Vernie Ford Tip-off Classic on Thursday night at Fullerton High.
The Lions (2-0) were led by the all-around play of point guard Coco Miller, who scored a game-high 32 points. She also recorded seven steals, six rebounds and made five 3-pointers.
JSerra dominated from the start, taking a 29-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. Miller made four baskets from beyond the arc in the first quarter.
The Lions held a 48-3 advantage at the intermission and easily advanced to the semifinals. They will face Esperanza on Friday at 6 p.m.
Canyon, which defeated Aliso Niguel, 68-54, on Thursday, will face Rosary in the other semifinal Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Relentless half-court pressure allowed JSerra to come up with 28 steals.
JSerra had five players score in double figures. Megan House added 14 points and nine boards, and center Courtney Vaccher had 11 points and 12 rebounds.
Corrine Bogle finished with 11 points and nine steals for the Lions, while California Cubel (10 points, three steals) and Dominique Simms (eight points, five steals) also made significant contributions.
The Lions were able to surpass their 70-point margin of victory from Wednesday night's rout over Savanna by three points.
The Grizzlies fell to 0-2.
In the CdM/Northwood Tip-off Classic:
Segerstrom 57, Corona del Mar 35: Kayla Stephens led all scorers with 19 points, and Natalie Perales added 17 points and 13 steals for the Jaguars (3-0) in the semifinals at Corona del Mar. CdM dropped to 2-1.
