MISSION VIEJO — Dana Hills' boys basketball team didn't stay down for long after a 21-point drubbing at the hands Foothill on Tuesday night in the Diablo Inferno tournament.
The Dolphins, led by forward Jack Clendenen's 17 points and 10 rebounds, routed Villa Park, 59-39, in the same tournament Wednesday night at Mission Viejo High.
Dana Hills coach Tom Desiano said his team performed better because it distributed the ball on offense.
"We share the ball," he said. "We're a pretty good passing team, so our (goal) is to move the ball and make the extra pass and eventually something will open up."
There were plenty of open looks for Dana Hills (2-1). Clendenen made most of his shots, and his teammate, Cory Blau, finished with 16 points, including three 3-pointers.
Spartans guard Luke Selway finished with a game-high 22 points, but he didn't receive much scoring help from the other Spartans (0-3).
Dana Hills jumped out to a 7-0 advantage, and it ended the opening period with a 19-8 lead.
Selway wouldn't allow the Spartans to go down without a fight, however, as they stayed within striking distance until the fourth quarter.
The Dolphins held Villa Park to seven fourth-quarter points as they opened up a 20-point lead and cruised to victory.
