HUNTINGTON BEACH – The top-ranked San Clemente boys volleyball team opened the Orange County Championships on Friday night looking worthy of the ranking. The Tritons (12-0) swept Foothill (25-12, 25-19, 25-18) and Edison (25-11, 25-23, 25-11) in the 16-team Division 1 bracket at Edison High to advance to today's semifinal.

Carl Nolet JSerra The senior opposite helped lead the Lions to finals of the Division 2 bracket of the Orange County Championships. JSerra went 5-0 in pool play in the tournament. Nolet has been a steadying force as the Lions have dealt with several injuries this season.

LAGUNA BEACH – As a player, Scott Panaro couldn't solve Corona del Mar. "I had never beaten them as a player or a coach," Panaro said. All that changed Wednesday. Panaro and the sixth-ranked Laguna Beach boys volleyball team swept seventh-ranked Corona del Mar, 25-20, 25-15, 25-19, in a nonleague match.

Braden Hall Trabuco Hills High School Hall helped lead the Mustangs to the title of the La Jolla Beach City Invitational. Hall recorded 52 kills (.387 percentage), 10 aces and seven blocks in the tournament and earned all-tournament honors. Earlier in the week, he had 13 kills and four blocks in a three-set sweep
