Football recruiting: La Habra running back Martin adds offer

    La Habra senior running back Carlos Martin (6-0, 195) has been offered by Sacramento State, Highlanders football coach Frank Mazzotta confirmed Wednesday night.

    Martin is fifth in the county in rushing with 1,073 yards and also has scored 19 TDs. He errupted for 429 yards against Colony earlier this season.

    La Habra plays host to Sunny Hills in the Freeway League on Friday.

    Mater Dei's Le cruises to Trinity championship

    ANAHEIM - Jakeishya Le didn’t have a good answer for how she has been able to do it, other than saying she has found her rhythm. She seemed surprised when she was reminded of her scores the last couple of weeks.

    Vu's closing act gives her Sunset League title

    COSTA MESA - Five holes changed everything for Lilia Vu during the final round of the Sunset League championship Tuesday at Costa Mesa Country Club.

    On the 14th tee of the Mesa Linda course, the Fountain Valley senior trailed Newport Harbor’s Grace Ferrell, but Vu finished with two birdies and an eagle to post a 4-under-par 66.

    She ended the 27-hole tournament with a 104, which gave her a three-shot victory over Fearrell.

    Mater Dei-Servite tickets available

    There will be tickets available at Cerritos College tonight for the Mater Dei vs. Servite game.

    Tickets go on sale at 5:30 p.m.

    There will be ticket sales desks at two entrances -- the Mater Dei (visitor) side and the Servite side. Cash only. Tickets are $8 for adults, $5 for senior citizens and $1 for children.

    Parking is free at Cerritos College, which is in Norwalk.

    Kickoff is 7:30 p.m.

    Swim: Edison's Smith commits to LSU (updated)

    Inspiring Edison All-County swimmer Thomas Smith of the Aquazot club has committed to LSU, the senior said Friday.

    Since his freshman year at Edison, Smith has shared his journey of swimming with a benign tumor in his left knee.

    Boys water polo: Laguna Beach defends No. 1 ranking in Division 3

    Cade Baldridge scored five goals, Trent Sadler netted three and Jack Dodson scored twice and drew five exclusions as Laguna Beach's boys water polo team defeated visiting Murrieta Valley, 11-6, Thursday in a showdown of the top-two ranked teams in Division 3.

    Laguna Beach is ranked No. 1; Murrieta Valley second.

    Le helps put Mater Dei on verge of perfection yet again

    Jakeishya Le was there at the beginning, so its only fitting that she has helped put the Monarchs verge of achieving an historic level of success.

    On Thursday Le finished statistically the best week of her four-year varsity golf career with her lowest nine-hole score, helping the No. 1 Monarchs extend their record winning streak to 45 consecutive matches.

    She posted a 4-under-par 31 at Willowick Golf Course during Mater Dei’s 196-241 Trinity League victory against Rosary.
