    Mater Dei roars into final of Diablo Invitational

    MISSION VIEJO - The Mater Dei boys basketball team was playing its fourth consecutive game at 8 p.m. in the Diablo Invitational.

    Fatigue was not apparent as the top-ranked Monarchs beat Notre Dame of Sherman Oaks, 87-59, Friday in the semifinals at Mission Viejo High.

    The Monarchs tallied 19 assists, and 9 of their 10 baskets in the first quarter were assisted. Forward Harrison Butler had a game-high seven assists for Mater Dei.

    Los Alamitos displays grit, advances to Coyote Classic final

    BUENA PARK - The calendar says it's December, which is early in the boys basketball season, but the intensity of the Coyote Classic semifinal between Los Alamitos and Bellflower had February written all over it.

    The Griffins' 12-point halftime advantage was erased by the Buccaneers, but Los Al held on to win, 68-63, on Friday night at Buena Park High.

    SVC uses pressure to pull away from Ocean View

    HUNTINGTON BEACH – Leading by nine coming out of the half, Saddleback Valley Christian turned up the defensive intensity and left host Ocean View behind Friday night in the Jim Harris Memorial Tournament of Champions.

    The Warriors outscored the Seahawks by 21 in the third quarter en route to a 74-43 victory in the semifinals at Ocean View High.

    Boys basketball: Inferno final

    The Diablo Inferno basketball tournament's championship game is Saturday at 4 p.m.

    St. Augustine of San Diego County has advanced to that championship game and would play Mater Dei if Mater Dei wins tonight.

    The Diablo Inferno is at Mission Viejo High.
